Symi Lit with Fires --> 24 March: 32 photos

It's the eve of one of the biggest days in the Greek calendar. It's Independence Day tomorrow and the Feast of the Annunciation. This evening hunderds of small fires were lit from Pitini all the way down to Yialos and around to Harani showing the way to the church of the Evaggelistria (which means Annunciation in Greek). A trully spectacular sight!

General Strike --> 19 March: 19 photos

It was a day of general strike today across the whole of Greece with workers protesting against the social security bill which is currently being discussed in Parliament. Bank workers have already been on strike for several days and many cash dispensers have reportedly run out of cash. The National Bank ATM on Symi has been out of action for the past two days.
