When FAROS started in April 2008, it’s main aim was to operate a fully-equipped voluntary vet clinic on Symi offering free veterinary care to all the animals of the island as well as to give an informed and authoritative view about animal welfare on Symi.
Over and above the running of the vet clinic, FAROS as a animal welfare organisation, also aims to raise awareness among the people for the need to care about all animals that live around us, pets and strays, so that there are no more ill, hungry and wretched animals that live or are slowly dying amongst us. FAROS also tries to contribute towards the eradication of violence towards animals and incidents of ill-treatment of animals that unfortunately often come to the light. Poisoning stray cats and dogs and chilling stories of maltreatment of animals (mainly cats) even by small children insult us all as human beings and shame us as citizens of a law-abiding society.
